Created by the rebels of the L5 colony cluster, the Shenlong received it's name from the Chinese phrase "God Dragon" and is made primarily for close combat. The name "Nataku" was given to it by it's pilot; Wufei. Wufei saw it as a fitting name for Nataku is the name of an ancient Chinese warrior. Being one of my favorite mobile suits, (and due to the fact that it has the highest fighting ability) I would say that this Gundam lives up to such a name.
